On this page we will tell you who we are,
and what our aims are.

Our Aims

In particular, one of our main aims is to encourage each other to play cricket as well as we possibly can and to aspire to, and acheive the ability to play at representative level.
At all times we should be honest in every thing we do on and off the cricket pitch.
We aim to win fairly and when in a superior position to complete the tasks required to remain superior and win the game.

Our History

Our first team members were a group of 6 year olds from various backgrounds and countries who very quickly bonded into a tight fielding unit. Good fielding has been a hallmark of the team since the first time together.
Our first game was a game called Action Grade Cricket that was played with a soft ball and in summary; pairs bat for four overs against pairs who bowl two 6 ball overs each. The batting team begins with 100 runs and loses 5 runs for every time a wicket is lost therefore results can sometimes be below 100.

Our first game realised 30 runs but wides were the highest score and even though we halved the opposition number of wides we lost by 12 runs. We had six Indian guys and six Kiwis including identical twins in our team.

Total results 2002/2003 season 10 wins 4 losses.

The next season began as the previous had finished but when we were drawn against some older teams we suddenly realised there was still a lot more work to do even though the games were very close. To be able to win them we had to have a much better strategy than they because they had greater strength.

Now we were playing limited overs cricket and the team had changed although there was a nucleus of seven boys who had been with us from the start. We fitted the others around what we had already learned as a team. It was through this time that different ones began to show prominence in certain skills so we were able to fit them as a unit that we didn’t deviate too much from. As this season began to come to a close we discussed who we were and decided it would be more fitting to change our name to Eden Roskill Yorkers ready to start the new season.

Results for 2003/2004 were 7 wins and 6 losses.

The beginning of the 2004/5 season meant a step up to play 2 day cricket. The grading round had been quite successful for us and that saw us drawn in the Premier B grade against some formidable opposition, the WCC Sharks, who had beaten us in the past at every meeting. Our first match was rained off so a limited overs match resulted and then we faced the Sharks. We'll let the results speak for themselves. The next match although rain interrupted was well within our grasp for outright points but was unfortunately rained off on the second day forcing another limited overs match that we lost.
As 2005 began we received 2 new players after losing some and began to power through the opposition to remain unbeaen at the end of the summer.

Results for 2004/2005 were 7 Wins, 1 Draw and 2 Losses

During the off-season of 2005 our governing body WDSCA made a decision to trial Year 7/8 in the Greater Auckland competition for 12 months. As there was little competition for us in the Year 5/6 Western Districts competition our club decided to move all three Year 6 teams to the Greater Auckland competition also. So we left behind the sure promise of a trophy and made the transition. What a fantastically positive move. The very first game we played was so competitive it finished with no-result because of the lack of overs bowled in the second innings and, not willing to cause an upset, our coach called the game off without taking the penalty runs from the opposition for slow play. The following week was our inaugural game on a real grass wicket that we won with relative ease. For the next couple of games we continued our winning way but the next was another very tight tussle that we lost by 2 wickets. The next game was the only game that we lost absolutely comprehensively all season but to be fair it wasn’t because they were much better players it was mainly that we played very poorly that day. It was a good wake up call for us, so much so that the following game the opposition never saw us coming let alone going. Christmas break began but some of the team continued to train and when we came back in 2006 our first opponents were shocked into submission. Not until we had played and won another 3 games did we come up against a team who took us to the wire and we folded under the pressure.

So for the season we played 15, lost 4, won 10 and no result 1. A very satisfactory finish and the season’s scores follow.
