2006 prizegiving this year was held in the new indoor
nets. The Junior Chairman, Arun Ranchhod, presided and there was an almost full turnout of boys in the Junior Club with their
parents and grandparents who overflowed the seating to stand around the fringes.
The first awards were made to those boys who had represented
Western Districts from our club. There are 7 boys from the Yorkers who were recognised, they are; Munsarim, Shyam, Amit,
Brett, Pranil, Mitch and Aditya.
Boys to receive their trophy first were the 'Best
Team Player' for each team. This is awarded to the player in the team that consistently delivered in all aspects of the game throughout the season taking into account
batting, bowling & fielding (including keeping) performance, commitment, enthusiasm, sportsmanship, attitude (towards
team & coach) and any other contribution beyond expectations. Shreyas was adjudged worthy of the award this year.
'Most Improved Players'
of each team is the one who had 'improved the most' in all areas for the Yorkers so when Joshua was called
he beamed and went toward the trophy table to receive his reward.
Next up was
Junior Batter and Bowler of the year. Whilst the batting award went elsewhere the Yorkers grabbed the Bowling
award with Brett for the second year, but this time outright.
“Cricketer of
the Year awards” are awarded in each of the following age groups.
Milo Squad, Y.3 & Y.4 Teams, Y. 5 Teams, Y. 6 Teams, Y.7 Teams, Y.8 Teams, U.14 Teams, U.15 Teams, U.18
Team.
The nominations for each of these
awards is discussed by the coaches in each age group to determine the recipient. Trophies
are awarded in each of the age groups to the player considered by the Coaches of teams within each age group to be the best
player in that group. While statistical performance represents the major component in considering the winner, attitude,
commitment, sportsmanship and contribution to the team as a whole need to be taken into account. Brett won
this award for the fourth consecutive year.
Then it was the turn of those
who had performed really well with bat and/or ball, i.e.Centuries, 5 wicket bags or hat tricks. We had no hattricks or 5 wicket
bags this year.
Last year one of the fanatical
parents in the club had presented a marvellous collage he had created using pictures of all sorts of various cricketers from
through the ages such as a young Richard Hadlee, Dennis Lillee, WG Grace, Vivian Richards, Merv Hughes, Martin Crowe, Allan
Donald and many, many more, to the club for the boy with the best figures for the year. The Junior Chairman began a new
tradition by asking the previous recipient to choose and present to the next recipient. Brett chose Anas Patel.
With the advent
of the new competition it is no longer possible for Year 6 boys to score 50 or more so they are only recognised for more than
30 runs.
They were as follows:
Amit 30 retired Not Out, 31 retired Not Out, 35 retired Not Out; Brett 35 Retired
Not Out, Munsarim 30 Retired Not Out. Brett took 3 wickets in an innings on two occasions, once for 7 runs and the second
time for 16 runs. Jay took 3 for 6; Joshua and Munsarim 3 for 7; Shyam 3 for 10 and Pranil 3 for 13.
Once the trophies had been presented it was each coach's
turn to award each boy in his team with a certificate, team photograph and any other paraphanalia they had earned.
